This is what they say at Ciena
I had the pleasure of working with David during his time with Ciena between 2010 – 2018. His role had him managing Daily Operations, Lease Transactions, and Projects across the global property portfolio. In 2012 this also included managing the global introduction of CBRE as Ciena’s Outsourced Service provider.
As a US-based VP with responsibilities for Ciena’s India Operations and other global functions with teams throughout the world, I was particularly keen to see minimum disruption and immediate benefit to all my teams at their locations. David delivered on this and more and, over a short period of time, significantly raised the profile of his India based CREF team.
Between 2013 – 2017 Ciena’s India Operations went through a number of expansions and David, in collaboration with me, my India Leadership team, and his internal and external teams managed these via interim office solutions ahead of delivering a new 145,000 sq ft building to create a campus solution of 250,000 sq ft. This new campus included a World Class R&D Center, open plan and agile officing solutions, and ‘Best in Class’ services – including Restaurant and Staff transport Solutions – that helped Ciena win industry awards on multiple occasions, as one of the “Great Places to Work’ in India.
From my US base, I have also seen David deliver across all the Company’s major office moves including a 450,000 sq ft Campus in Ottawa, a 140,000 sq ft new Head Corporate Office solution in Baltimore, and many other global projects and initiatives too.
He has a natural enthusiasm for engaging with the customer, looking at the big picture whilst managing the fine detail, agreeing to plans, and reporting and delivering on these. He manages his staff and teams to take pride in their work and their relationships with their customers and looks to nurture each of them in their personal development too.
I would have no hesitation in recommending David’s services in leading a global team again to any fortunate business that could leverage his experience and talents.
David joined Ciena as an Interim Facilities Director at a particularly demanding time, with an imminent acquisition about to double the company size and substantially increase its international presence. This had stretched the permanent Facilities team with multiple, high priority projects.
David quickly and calmly tackled the situation to prioritise projects and, through incredibly hard work and good management, led the successful completion of projects on time. He combines excellent technical skills with a wry sense of humour that brings out the best from his staff and colleagues.

David worked with me between Dec 1999 and June 2008 at Vanco – Starting as our Facilities Manager and working his way up to our Head of Facilities and Administration.
During this time he consistently produced a very high level of work. He has tremendous ability to get things done and do so in fuss free way. He also takes a very commercial approach so that services are delivered cost effectively. The key to all of this being his attention to detail.Aside from producing great results, David is an excellent team member and will always do things with a smile.
I have employed hundreds of people over the last thirty years. Many of them have been fantastically qualified with amazing CVs. However if the going is tough and I wanted to pick five people in my boat who I can utterly rely on to deal with any situation or crisis, David would be one of them.

I contacted David to advise me on my lease negotiations for a new shop I was negotiating on as premises for my new business. He highlighted that the lease made no reference to a Schedule of Condition and that I should ensure this was rectified and a Schedule prepared. The Agents advised that this could be done but at my expense and arrangement. David agreed favourable terms with a RICS surveyor and the Schedule was prepared and presented in a matter of days. Following the advice given and having the Schedule referenced in and attached to lease gave me the required comfort to proceed and my business is now up and running.
